Editorial policy
Our rules of the road, written to be read: subject choices, sourcing, corrections and independence.
This page states the rules the magazine applies to every text it publishes. They come down to one sentence: write what is useful to a local household, describe the town as it is, and label anything that is not purely editorial.
How we choose subjects
A subject belongs in Brandon Heart if it helps a reader do something in or around the town: plan a weekend, join a group, survive the summer, understand the calendar. The six gates of the magazine, community events, family life, local groups, faith and traditions, the seasonal guide and around Brandon, define that perimeter. We exclude political coverage, professional advice and anything that exists only to promote a business.
Sourcing and verification
Our calendar coverage is built from public listings, park and library programming, school seasons and the patterns of recurring local life. We write at the level of categories: what markets carry, what park systems offer, what a first visit to a group feels like. We do not invent dates, attendance figures, quotations or named events we have not verified, and when we describe something as a recurring pattern rather than a fixed fact, that is deliberate. Readers should always confirm event details with organizers, and we say so in the terms.
Neutrality on religion
Brandon Heart is a community magazine, not a religious one. We cover congregations as civic institutions, for the food drives, meeting space, youth programs and holiday events they contribute to the shared calendar, and we stop there. No doctrine, no ranking, no invitations. The rule is stated in full in our coverage of faith communities in civic life.
Corrections
An error reported to [email protected] is verified and corrected, usually the same day, with the page kept current rather than a note buried at the bottom. Reporting an error requires only the page address and the sentence concerned; see the contact page.
Independence and partnerships
No article is written by an outside party without disclosure. Sponsored content, if any, is labeled at the top of the page and follows the rules on the sponsored content page. We accept no payment that would bend a recommendation, and we publish no rankings of local businesses. Who we are sits on the about page.
